my foray into the porn industry …. let the adventures commence

June 3rd, 2008 by Sasha

So as some of you may know working as a freelance writer has it’s ups and downs. Even when you sell an article it’s weeks before you see a dime on all your hard work. There are other ways to whore my art out … copywriting, ghostwriting, you get the point.  All of which I do. But still who couldn’t use a little extra money these days with gas prices skyrocketing and no end in sight?

Enter lesbian porn. Yep, you heard me … lesbian porn. My friend Nica, who I’ve already blogged about has been kind enough to offer me a job. Before you get too excited, I’ll be working behind the scenes, maybe even behind the camera (if I’m really lucky) but you will probably never see me.

So to say that I look forward to my new job would be the understatement of the year! I start this Thursday!!! Can you say, lucky lesbian?

You mean to tell me they actually have WRITERS for porn?
So all those terrible lines and [insert grunts and moans here] will all be thanks to our lil Sasha? Wow, and they said you’d never amount to anything ;)

is there any faster way to become permanently jaded and cynical about sex and romance than working in the sex industry? ick.

Donna, while I think that it’s definitely possible to become jaded while working in the adult industry it doesn’t have to be that way. What you do and who you are, are not always the same thing. Not to mention that growing up in Los Angeles already has me pretty jaded to start with … sad but true.

i always felt lucky in a way when i was growing up to be shielded from all the overt sexuality that heterosexuals were bombarded with constantly in all aspects of their daily lives. it did not apply to me as a lesbian, and i always thought the slam you over the head with sexy methodologies used by the media and entertainment industries were a little absurd and laughable. on a more serious level, i felt sorry for the hets because i thought it had to be desensitizing and cheapening sex for them irrevocably. but now the lesbians have pretty much caught up (l-word, clubs, logo network, etc.), except i don’t watch any of that so it barely affects me.
i probably sound like some kind of sexual luddite and prude, but i think a big part of the fun and excitement of romance and sex is the qualities it has of being slightly forbidden but at the same time pure, innocent, and intense. and that is the exactly the component that i think you may be permanently disabling in your emotional repetoire by working in the porn industry, and, to a smaller extent, what all society suffers (including lesbians now) from the Sex Sells attitude that inescapably pervades very nook and cranny of our lives.

Sasha, I never got a chance to congratulate you! How awesome! (I’m way behind on my commenting, so you’ll probably see a slew of them from me all in a row, sorry). I’ve just started doing freelance myself and it’s frustrating but at the same time exciting to actually get *paid* for writing, which I do all the time anyway. I am curious about this “lesbian porn” thing - lesbian porn for lesbians, or for straight men? If the former, wow! I didn’t know there was any!
