A Powerful Straight Ally

renee

Where should I start? A couple weeks ago, I was contacted by this bright, beautiful voice over the phone about possibly having my jewelry mentioned in an upcoming article for this gorgeous new magazine called LGBT Wed. Anyways, the phone call …. can we just talk about that for a second?

Anyone that reads this blog knows that I’m notoriously bad with phones. As in, I’ve been known to literally run out of a room just so I could pretend I didn’t hear my phone ringing. Phones can give me anxiety. Or … scratch that, people on the other side of the phone give me anxiety sometimes. So imagine my surprise when this phone call with this stranger went amazingly well. The voice on the other side was bright, friendly and kind. But beyond that, the vibe I got … the vibe was epic. This was a cool lady who I was super happy at the thought of getting to know.

She told me a little about herself and her amazing career. She is one of the world’s foremost bridal stylists of Beverly Hills and is widely considered to be one of the wedding industries most respected and loved experts. Her career accomplishments have been jaw dropping but it wasn’t until after we hung up the phone that it clicked in my head who she was. She introduced herself right away as Renée Strauss, but I didn’t realize it was Renée Strauss, the star of Brides of Beverly Hills, which was literally one of my favorite shows when I was preparing for our wedding and now as a community, we’re lucky to have her on our side as one of our powerful straight allies in the fight for equality.

Just to get a little idea of her career, take a quick peak at some of her client list!

I don’t know if we realize how important it is to have people like her on our side, during this important time in history. We need all the straight allies we can get and when a woman of her caliber reaches out to our community, well …. I can’t tell you how touched and how excited I am to know that she truly supports our fight for equality in so many ways. Having someone like her, support marriage equality is major and it makes a difference.

You must read her blog and her Huffington Post articles to keep up to date on everything wedding that you need to know. When you’re totally done cyber stalking her, check out the beautiful new LGBT Wed magazine … it’s as if Vogue and Martha Stewart had a gay baby and it was fabulous.

As someone who works in the entertainment field as an attorney, I see a lot of celebrities and a lot of people trying to become celebrities. It’s true, having someone like Renee Strauss come on board with the fight for equality can and does make a difference because of her influence. People know who she is, she’s well respected and then if she supports a community, it gives some people who maybe didn’t before, a new perspective that if someone “like her” thinks its OK, then maybe it really is. It’s just the way the world works. So thank you Renee Strauss for being a straight ally in this fight for equality. We welcome you with open arms.
