Dear T-Mobile,
It’s been a decade that we’ve been together. In all truth, you were a rebound. I had just broken up with a jerk and they paid my cell phone. You were my first sign of independence ….. I signed my own contract with you. It was special and romantic. You promised to take care of me and I promised to be faithful.
And faithful, I’ve been. Sure there have been temptations, but I never strayed. Until now. But really, it’s your fault that I’m leaving you for another. You made promises you never kept mean while another has been waving her sexy little ass in my face for years now!
I didn’t give into temptation right away. I’ve held out for years with the promise that you would bring her into our relationship. But you never made good on your promise. So this month on our 11 year anniversary, I’m leaving you. I’m leaving you for the iPhone 5.
No …. don’t bother trying to talk me out of it with your smooth talking ways. I’ve fallen for that before but not this time!
This time, it’s not me. It’s you.

Breaking up with your cell phone carrier can be a lot like breaking up with a girlfriend. Are you sure that what you’re leaving her for, will actually be better once you’re there? It’s a risk. Most people end up staying because they’d rather deal with the crappy relationship they’re in, rather then take a risk on the unknown. That goes for cell phones and women.
And like any good break up. It’s costing me money. My actual contract isn’t up till December. But I’m so miserable, I’m willing to pay them alimony just to get the fuck out. $150 to move my family plan over to a carrier that has my mistress, the iPhone. So ends the longest relationship of my life.
Bu I’m making the move because this lesbian needs a damn smart phone!!! Because my old phone has a really low IQ. And not just any smart phone will do. Do we all remember my iPad obsession? Yes …. I am brand loyal. Yes, I know there is a droid out there claiming she’s better then my baby. But I don’t care. Love is blind and I want what I want.
Also …. Apple is super gay …. OK, I may be reaching now.
I want to know from you, the reader what smart phone and carrier you have? Reviews? Information?? Come on, geek out with me. I spent last night accidentally memorizing overlay coverage maps of my area of the top 3 carriers. I can now tell you where all towers are for a 20 mile radius. Along with stats of the Samsung Galaxy 3 (which is what T-mobile is waving under my nose to stay) in comparison to all the iPhone stats. I’m talking down to millimeters. Please tell me I’m not the only one??
Sasha, I sent a comment, but it didn’t give me any warning that it went through on my end. I may have submitted my comment twice, if so can you please delete that and this? Thanks.
Virgo, I just checked and neither went through …. hmmm …. could you try again?
How strange, it gives me the following, “Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!” I’ll try to break up my response, maybe that will work.
I have always been a technological, computer and gadget geek. I spend more money on things of that nature than I do on other such things, such as clothing. I have had a “smartphone” way before iPhone’s came out and I have had an mp3 player way before the iPod’s even came out (yes, there were mp3 players out there before apple took over the market). I use to be anti-apple, but then I got involved in things like making music and I hated when my windows computer would crash right in the middle of a music project I was making. My first switch to apple was buying a laptop, then I bought an iMac, then slowly I bought an iPod touch and then an iPhone, etc. I love the ease of use apple products have, without the frustration of trying to get things to work. I have been using the computer since the Sierra Online (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierra_Entertainment) days, Napster days and even before all that, with the old apple Macs in school as we played games like Number Munchers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brvLpircQe4).
I have an iphone 4 on the AT&T network and I like it a lot. I gave Verizon a shot a couple of times a few years ago, but finally gave up because 1.) They were more expensive than AT&T (even with my work discount) and 2.) You cannot use the internet and call at the same time, like you can on AT&T. Yes, Verizon may have better coverage, but I’m not off in the boonies much and I find that AT&T, covers the areas I need. I also find Verizon restrictive and they never quite had the diverse phone selection that AT&T has had.
Bleh, some of my stuff still isn’t showing up, oh well.
Sorry, it seems like I’m spamming the comment section and I really don’t mean to do that.
Motorola Droid razr maxx, on the Verizon network. It’s got about 2x the battery life of most other smartphones, including the new iPhone. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the best phone on the market. It has hdmi out, i can easily hook it up to my TV and watch a movie if i want. As far as multitasking, that was not possible only with the iPhone 4 on Verizon, it’s been possible with the Android phone that i have, and others that I’ve had before. I gave the iPhone 4 an honest try, and i can see why people like them, ease of use, feels good in the hand,.looks nice, etc. But, it bored me very quickly. They can change a few chips around on the inside, change how the outside looks a bit, but you’ll never truly be able to customize your phone, you’ll always be tied to iTunes (no free music downloads), and half of the videos you go to watch, your iPhone won’t let you because of some beef Steve jobs had with adobe.
No worries, Virgo … I think they all came through now. Whenever someone leaves a link, it usually goes into moderation. I caught it
And I’m a bit of a geek too …. the ONLY reason I have held out on getting a smartphone for so long was
a) I was holding out for an iphone and was locked into Tmobile that has THE worst selection of phones.
b) I’m sort of anti-phone anyways …. I only text
c) I have a macbook pro, an ipad 2 and an ipod touch 2 or 3 can’t remember it’s been so long ….. and I have internet on all of them …. AND I work from home, mostly on the computer all day. So it’s seemed redundant to have to pay a data plan on a phone when I hardly ever go anywhere.
But I’ve convinced myself that I NEED a good cell phone camera to catch all the funny moments I ALWAYS miss because my stand alone Canon elph is never within reach and when it is, it’s very temperamental about actually taking the picture unless the lighting is perfect. Which means I ALWAYS miss the good shots.
Aaaaaaaand I would like to think that maybe I’ll blog more ….. or at least photo blog more. Like random funny crap that happens I can just post from the road. When I’m actually on the road. *it could happen!*
….. Oh and I forgot, this is the anniversary present Remi and I are buying for each other …. I’m paying for hers and she’s buying mine …. but like always she gets screwed because I want the 32gb iphone 5 and she’s happy to get a cheaper iphone 4s 16gb because she is NOT a techie at all and doesn’t care.
@kaetchan – I think it depends on what you mean by customization and a persons needs. I think what really comes into play here is how technologically savvy a person is. I’m not tied to iTunes as far as free music downloads, as there are other means of acquiring what I need, it’s just not legal, but if you know your way around the computer, you know how to get the things you want, regardless of what phone or carrier you have. Trust me, if there is a will there is a way to get it. Therefore, I think the idea of being “tied” to something is relative and correlated to how technologically savvy you are.
Go for and never look back, I say. I have been with TMo for almost as long as you and started using their smartphones as soon as they were available. I have been through MANY different models because there are too many glitches that result in annoyances I just can’t live with. Some of those phones have been launched and touted at launch by TMo as the fastest, greatest, best! only for TMo ending up scrapping them mere months later and making them unavailable and ending their support. One phone was only six-months old before it became a dinosaur because of the instability. All my friends with iPhones sing their praises. No crashes. No hangups. No phantom app launching. Fast. Smooth. Clear. Don’t worry if your music library is mp3. There are programs which will convert them into the Apple’s format. It might be a little labor intensive if you have a lot of music, but I think it’s worth the effort. I’m with you, Sasha. I’m dumping TMo, too. They just simply haven’t been good enough to me.
Rexie – You don’t need to convert your music at all, apple plays mp3′s, fyi.
@Sasha – Hm, I don’t know, I’m still getting the same issue, but I’ll work around it. Yeah, I hear you on the anti-phone thing, that can be a kind of ball and chain thing imo. Luckily, I don’t mingle with too many people, but a select few, so I don’t have 2532532 million people trying to call or text me and I’m very careful who I give my number out. I’m not a person who likes to be bothered in that way. Just an fyi, iPhone has free messaging, so long as the people you are texting/messaging also have an iPhone, so you and Remi can “text/message” each other free, it will show up as blue bubbles, where as the green bubbles mean you are paying for that text.
@Sasha – As for the photoblogging, I’ve thought about doing that myself. Lately, I’ve been drooling over the new Sony Rx1000, which is like having a DSLR or close, that is pocketable. However, there is a certain convenience that comes with owning a smartphone that has good camera functionality these days. Again, I think it just depends on people’s wants and or needs.
LOL, now it’s saying I’m posting comments too quickly, I can’t win. I feel like I’m trying to get to the shore, while a wave keeps drowning my ass and pushing me back to the ocean.
Pretty soon, I’m going to try Morse code, haha, omfg.
Thanks for the fyi, Virgo, on the mp3 functionality. That is just more reason to switch, imo.
My iPhone bill is outrageously high.
I miss the telephone days of using paper cups connected by string or yarn to transmit messages. Sigh those were easier times.
I have a smart phone but the battery sucks and I really want an IPhone to but I cant afford it right now. I heard that T-Mobile was good, at least better then what I have right now, I have cricket. Was T-Mobile really that bad, I heard that now you can get it without a contract?
Rexie – thank you for telling me about T-mobile’s smartphones. I was almost considering staying with them and going with the samsung galaxy 3 but I think I should just get out NOW.
Jaz – Hi! And the monthly cost is causing me some worry …. Remi and I will be on a family share plan or something and we pay for my parent’s phones so 4 phones on ATT and I’m scared to see that bill!!!! But that’s how much I want this!!! I’m willing to make a cut somewhere else in the budget.
Kristy – Tmobile actually hasn’t been “bad” in my experience as far as service. And the customer support is always really sweet. I’m leaving because of the iphone. Plain and simple. But they do have some good contracts right now …. I heard about the contract free thing too but don’t know anything about it.
Virgo —- great info thanks
You’re most welcome, Sasha
. From what I hear, the Samsung Galaxy is the most successful of the TMo smartphone offerings, and if I were to stay with them, it would be what I switch to (yet again). But something tells me even if I found happiness there, I would always secretly pine for the iPhone like I always pined for the iPod (which has exceeded my expectations). After I get my hands on the iPhone, my next trick is an iPad, and then I’ll go full blown Apple and get one of their sexy computers for the big stuff. It is expensive, yes, but all reports I’ve heard from friends are positive and that makes the expense worth it. I will never be able to cajole myself into accepting anything else by telling myself, “it’s just as good”.
@Sasha – Doesn’t Remi work for the government/military? If so, ask AT&T if they offer a discount because I work for the federal govt. and I get a certain percentage off my bill, as well as a 50% discount on all accesories.
Virgo – yes she does and she’s already with AT&T and she does get a % off … I think it’s like 15%? Not sure. But totally looking forward to jumping in on that! Ha! One marriage benefit the federal govt, can’t deny me!!!
Sasha – Sweet!
The battery life on my iPhone is VERY short maybe faulty battery.
I love my Samsung! why would i pay the expensive price for an iPhone when the galaxy 3 does the same thing…cheaper and with a bigger screen?
As for my carrier, I’m in Canada and I’m stuck with Rogers. We have a love/hate relationship. I try and leave and they keep throwing free stuff at me to stay. For example they gave me an Xbox and a pvr.
2015 I’m out for good.
I’m on my way to reserve an iPhone today. I am sooooo not a techie. Anything that I can’t caress, flirt with and convince to do things my way frustrates me to no end. Therefore, I was one of the last people (probably on earth) to get a cell phone years ago, the last to get in on texting, and now the last to get a smart phone. I need someone to hold my hand and show me that this new piece of technology isn’t out to get me. And Apple will do that. That’s the reason I got a MacBook – they will walk me through it. It sounds pathetic, I know, but it’s what works for me.
I will also be renewing my contract with AT&T which expired a few months ago. Even though they cost a little more than Sprint and Verizon, I’ve been happy with the customer service there, and I’ve heard horror stories from folks that have had Sprint and Verizon.
Virgo, I wish I knew how to get music other than at iTunes. There’s some stuff they don’t carry, so I’m limited. Argh.
@Kenda – Do you have email? What music are you looking for? I could explain stuff to you, or get you started.
I have the HTC one and at&t and I really like both. I had a blackberry for years and so I’m new to this whole touch screen thing. There are some aspects I hate (want to cut and paste easily dammit!) But overall I love it.
Hey Virgo, it’s hows.it.that@gmail.com. I can’t remember what I was looking for that iTunes doesn’t carry, other than a Chely Wright song. But any tips you’d be generous enough to send my way would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
So girls,
Taking this topic to another aspect: any of you uses an APP to find lesbians? I hear about gay guys using grindr but I haven’t head anything about the girls.. so, what is going on? Girls don’t like to date through smartphones?
It’s OFFICIAL! I am officially on the iPhone 5 wait list!!
After 4 SOLID days of me and Remi trying to sign up first on the phone, then being told we could get a better deal online. Then because so many people were signing up on line, it crashed their servers. By then it was after their business hours and we had to wait for the next day. (Day 2) where we try online again and then call, spend an hour on the phone ordering it ( I should say Remi did all the phone calls, I did the online) and then thinking we were good. Day 3 I try to check the status of the order, but low and behold, no such order exists! More hours on the phone.
Then today, day 4, after another hour on the phone we finally have confirmation that our two new iPhones are on their way. Eventually. 14 to 21 day wait.
which I’m really crossing my fingers it’s 14 days because then it would make it in time for my b day trip to the mountains!! And I’m dying to use that camera on my babies!!
But yea …. Cross your fingers for us!!! I’m literally praying to get it soon.
