Don’t hate me ‘cuz I’m …. a writer.

Posted on 07. Jun, 2009 by Sasha in Featured

Yes, it’s been a while since I’ve blogged. Why? Well a few reasons. One of them would be that a few super mean comments  and emails from readers made me question myself and what I write about.

Am I guilty of only blogging about the exciting parts of my life? Sure.

Do I sometimes go out of my way in search of trouble, all in the hopes of having something to blog about? Well … yes and no. As a writer I think I am always looking for new experiences. So I am open to trying new things, pushing limits (including relationships) and seeing what happens.

But do I ever make something up and then post it as gospel? Never. First of all, I save that good stuff for my book of fiction I’m working on. Secondly, I’m pretty sure Maggie would comment and call me out for the whole world to see. Lastly, I don’t need to. My life, when I’m actually living it, tends to be pretty fun.

But what is it about my life that makes for so many interesting nights, a few of my mean readers would like to know. I’ve thought about it during my reprieve and I’ve come up with a few answers.

For starters, I surround myself with interesting people. Mostly lesbians, who are fun, witty, a little crazy and very wild. We’re no strangers to drama and we’re not afraid to make a scene if we feel like it. Life is too short not to live your life on your terms.

The other part of my theory as to why my life has had so many blog worthy events is not that I’m special. It’s just that I can look back on a night and write about it from a storyteller’s perspective. I’m sure a lot of you have pretty awesome evenings that could fill your own blog, but maybe you don’t think like a writer. Maybe you’re mode of expression is painting or music or whatever. So basically what I’m saying is don’t hate because it looks like I’m having some fun in my life. Believe me, if you knew me … you wouldn’t hold those nights against me. They’re too far and few between to makeup for all the other crap.

So in the end, if you don’t like my blog. Don’t read it. But I’m betting that most of my readers are intelligent enough to realize that what I write is for your entertainment purposes. It’s all true, I just leave out the dull moments.

“a few super mean comments and emails from readers made me question myself and what I write about”

I have noticed that the relative anonymity of the internet unleashing a lot of people’s inner ‘asshole’. In other words, it allows life’s COWARDS and BULLIES to cowardly bully someone.

It’s your blog. Write about what you want to write about. If people are interested, they’ll hang around. If not, they’ll dip.

    I subscribe. I read. Occasionally I comment.

I just recently started reading your blog, and I’d like to say that I never questioned it’s validity before. Now that I think about it, I really don’t care if you were making it all up… I’m entertained and that’s really all that matters.

I think you’re a decent writer. Your style kind of reminds me of Marian Keyes… it’s entertaining, witty, and well put together.

Forget the haters, there are plenty of other people who look forward to reading about your crazy antics.

Your blog is awesome!!! I love that sometimes you write about your life, sometimes about general things, sometimes about events. It’s entertaining and educational. I don’t have any lesbian friends and have just come out. Your blog helps me to learn things that I couldn’t possibly know when I thought I was straight.

I’ve never doubted the reality of the events. I know perfectly how the party and dating scene could be. I used to blog about it too. If some people are not as beautiful, smart and popular as you are it’s their problem.

I bet there are tons of people who are addicted to your blog. Since I discovered it I’ve been checking almost every day to see whether you wrote anything else. So, please, keep doing what you are doing ;)

    Your “haters” are jealous bitches.

I surround myself with fun people, and yes we tend to be a crazy bunch. I have a high paying job and can afford the “adventures” I blog about. My life is MINE to blog about. Just as your life is YOURS.

I’ve told my readers more than once, if you don’t like what I blog or have negative views, stop reading my blog.

Sasha you’re an amazing writer. Keep it up!

    Sasha,

I read your blog because I find it entertaining and it gives me an insight into your life, which I find interesting. So you do your job as a writer well.

I’ve never questioned the validity of your stories.

I think some people (including me, sometimes) find your stories to be a bit much is because I know that my group of friends treats eachother completely differently. Just because some of your readers think the drama is over the top doesn’t mean they’re not ‘beautiful, smart and popular ‘ or they’re ‘jealous bitches’ . And nobody’s holding it against you that you’re having some fun in your life. Come on. It’s just that they have a different viewpoint on what’s acceptable and what’s not. That’s all.

    Keep writing!

Please don’t let a few ‘haters’ influence what you have to say. I’m sure there are far more folks who enjoy reading your blog and would be disappointed if you stopped.

    Keep up the great writing!!

Sasha, tsk, tsk!! Who cares if there are haters… I know I said that, but I am sure that I would be hurt if people randomly attacked me on my site for the things I wrote.

I agree with the first poster, anonynymity makes some people bitchy and mean, so I choose to ignore them.

I love your site because it shows me what my life could be like if I were younger with no kiddos. What fun you must have! Keep writing, I love it!

I think your blog is great and I hope that the people who have been rude to you feel ashamed. Your story telling/writing skills make me smile at my computer. Thanks for putting it all out there… it makes me feel like wow other peoples lives are just as crazy as mine!
