Bluehost Rocks: Godaddy … Not So Much
Posted on 02. Apr, 2008 by Sasha in Featured
I just spent 12 hours yesterday going around and around in circles trying to switch my WordPress theme on GoDaddy. I followed every tutorial, every step-by-step guide I could find. But to no avail. I’m stubborn and a do-it-my-self kind of broad so I kept trying until it was midnight and I was close to tears, convinced my IQ had dropped about 20 points. Since everywhere I read how easy this was supposed to be. So finally I caved and I called GoDaddy’s helpline. This was what I was told, “I’m sorry, we can not offer any technical support for WordPress. That is not our product.”
Alrighty then. That was all I needed to hear. I hung up and quickly called Bluehost.com where a lovely voice answered on the other end. I spazzed out a bit on the phone and told her my ordeal I was having switching themes and if I came over to them, would someone, anyone be willing to help me out a little bit?!
This was her answer, “Oh of course we will. We’d be more than happy to walk you through the whole process. It’s really not that hard, but I’m a nerd, so it’s easy for me. Don’t worry at all. And if you call back and they won’t help you, ask for me. I’ll be working for 6 more hours.”
She was kind, considerate, didn’t talk down to me and most of all helpful. That was all I needed to hear. I hung up from her and promptly signed up for a year of hosting with Bluehost.com.
Before I called back I thought I would try to upload the themes on their control panel, like I had been trying all day at GoDaddy. And guess what? I’m not an idiot! It worked like a charm! Apparently GoDaddy’s control panel is less than user friendly under some circumstances. Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not bad mouthing them. I’ve had good service worth them so far, and my domain names are still registered with them. I mean really, you cant’ beat their prices. I’ve also read a few people saying that they were smart enough to navigate through their control panel and it was no problem. I’m sure it’s possible to host a Wordpress blog on GoDaddy … it’s just not easy.
But if you’re at all like me and didn’t take any programming classes in college ( I was too busy in the dance studio ) you might want to save yourself the headache and host your WordPress blog at Bluehost.com. I’m not making a cent off of this review. I was just so frustrated by GoDaddy and than so elated by Bluehost’s customer support I had to tell the world. To top it off, just to make sure I did it right, I called back. I got someone totally different than the first customer service angel I got the first time but it didn’t matter. This other voice over the phone line was just as helpful. They don’t make you feel like an idiot and they actually help you. Wow, what an amazing concept for customer support!
So I give Bluehost.com 10 out of 10 stars.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
