Who Has New Wood Floors? I Do!!!!!!

Remi & Willow & half of our new hallway :) Still need the trim!

As you all know, remodeling our house has been a never-ending project. But mostly because we never really started. Well that’s not entirely true, things were torn up, taken apart, stripped and moved. But nothing was ever repaired, put down, built or finished.

So for the last couple years we have literally been living in remodeling limbo to the point that I have actually had to tell friends when they were on their way over to go out that night to, “Go potty before you get here, because you are not allowed in until the floors are done!”

Well last week, Remi and I decided to go balls to the wall and lay the new floors on her three day weekend (Mon – Wed) and just do it, whether the heavens fall, that floor was going down!

After two days of working like home improvement maniacs from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. (I’m sure our neighbors loved falling asleep to the sound of a power saw in the wee hours of the morning) we had beautiful new floors!

Oh a little side note: I would be remiss if I failed to mention how unbelievably HOT Remi was putting down these floors. I know I said “we” did it. But by “we” I really meant “mostly her.” She was the one with the know how and the power saw. I was the one with a helping hand and the supportive cheer. I also made sure she had plenty of water whenever she needed it ;) . See? I helped! But seriously, there is nothing sexier then when your girl throws on a wife beater with some old jeans and works up a sweat doing manual labor for your shared little home. I literally found myself just staring at her at times thinking, “Oh my god she’s so hot right now!”

We thought that this would be good enough to start letting our friends in, but alas, when one thing looks really good it makes everything else look that much worse! So now we’re furniture shopping like women obsessed and the little finishing touches we still have to do don’t seem so little anymore!

So before we can throw our little housewarming party, we still have to put down the trim (moulding I think it’s called?) around the entire perimeter, finish our kitchen cabinets and  get all new furniture. Oh and a new front door ….. yep …. that’s it. That shouldn’t take any time at all! ;)

Well congrats you two on getting started. I envy you to no end because I am where you are. My entire downstairs is travertine, but my upstairs, when I moved in a few years ago, was the nastiest carpet in the most horrible condition that you can imagine. My mind went catatonic just thinking of the things living in it (I’m a bit of a germaphobe). I didn’t want stone on the upstairs because it looks too cold for the bedrooms, so I opted for hardwood. Budget dictates I can either get the good wood and lay it myself, or get cheaper wood and have someone do it for me. Ugh. I am all about quality, so I guess it’s going to be my job, and I cannot imagine the backbreaking labor involved. Ugh again. So I will vicariously enjoy your project which is in the first of the final stages. It might motivate me to get on the ball and moving on mine. Cheers and wine and cheese!

I can defitely relate…both to the way that home improvements NEVER go as scheduled, and to how it can be to watch the girlfriend tear into some shit!
I bought my house three years ago from my aunt’s wife when they were about 95% finished remodelling it…they bought the house next door and have been remodelling it since that time…and year before that, I almost bought my aunt’s house as she was moving into this and one and she had just refinished remodelling it herself!

And btw, I’ve finished MAYBE 5% of that 5% that they hadn’t finished when I moved in.

I am so jealous, we have only fully completed one room in our house, my “Studio”/Guest room, next is our bathroom, we currenly only have one working shower which is not fun when getting ready to go out on a saturday with guests staying.
