I have a pet peeve about girls and their social networking site pictures. For some reason this phenomenon has overtaken the women of the current twenty-something generation. It is a condition usually referred to as cocksucker lips. In case you have not noticed this, it is when the girl in question cannot take a photo without pursing her lips and turning her head to one side. I am not sure what started this or how it caught on but what I am sure about is that it is never attractive. I like to think that it started with women who were trying to look thinner or hide bad teeth or what they think is a double chin but sadly just ended up looking like a pornstar with a mouthful of jizz. I’m sorry to be so graphic but it really is annoying when a girl shows her incredible lack of self esteem by posing the exact same way in every damn photo. And every single time her lips are puckered and cheeks sucked in like a fishy face. Trust me ladies, we would rather see the cute little gap in your front teeth when you smile than this deformed image you present as normal. Do you really expect us to believe that this is how you look all the time? And really, what happens when I meet you in person and you have to talk? Are you going to sound like the teacher in Charlie Brown movies because you refuse to unpucker your lips?? There is an entire 2 minute video dedicated to one girl in particular whose photos were all the same damn face. And you can see what a fake she is. It is not attractive. Geez why can’t this generation just be honest and be themselves?

Ha! Maybe it’s the circle I run around with, but until I saw the video, I had NO IDEA what you meant by that face. Wow. That’s….wow. If anyone ever makes that face in a picture with me, they’re getting photoshopped out.
I agree that that one one hell of an obnoxious picture, but keep the inclusiveness and safety of all people and avoid the r-word. She looks like a girl who’s trying too hard, not a “fucking retard”.
Just to clarify: I agree that the point of the video could have been made without resorting to calling her names.
HOWEVER ….. Neither Raye (who wrote this piece) nor myself made that video. Raye simply found a video that best demonstrated the point of her blog. Unfortunately we can’t edit OTHER PEOPLE’S you tube videos.
When I first saw the video I thought to myself, “Boy someone was really mad at this chick.”
Whoever made that video has some serious anger…too bad no one has been kind enough to tell her to knock it off (unless that’s just what she looks like…in which case, go her for owning those cocksucker lips!).
I get the point of this post – it is a sad and ridiculous phenomenon. But it’s also kinda sad when women (especially lesbians) feel compelled to demean other women. Our collective self-esteem is clearly shitty enough as is.
I know you didn’t make the video, but posting it perpetuates the public ridicule of a chick who clearly needs a fucking hug and some reassurance that “she’s good enough, she’s smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like her!”
it would appear that she has some sort of an untreatable condition on one side of her face and her neck (like tina fey likes only one side of her face to be photographed because of a scar on the other)
but despite her permanent facial cramp she seems at ease in public and appears to have many friends who see her true beatuty within..
Hahah it’s not cocksuckers lips, it’s supposed to be a kissy face (and no I don’t do that in my pictures thank you very much!). Either way, it looks utterly ridiculous!
The term I’ve learned for this is “duck facing”, as in the lips are pursed up like a duck bill. I sort of categorize repulsion towards is as another case of “These darn kids these days!” complete with shaking fist. I mean, at age 30, I’m starting to do it, too, but more so with music than the slutty social network pics. I get angry at what I hear on the radio, and long for the days when Grunge was still king of the airwaves.
I remember 10-15 years ago the big slutfest snafu was over wearing tank tops with exposed bra straps. This was a main tacky offense of teenage girls and younger women…and I was thoroughly guilty. It wasn’t just supposedly slutty, but also just bad fashion. I suck at fashion, though, so I went with it, straps and all.
Yeah.. call the wahmbulance… I don’t give a damn if this chick needs a hug. Clearly she thinks she is a rockstar and would probably laugh in your face if you offered her one. I just call a spade and spade and some women deserve it. Just because she is female doesn’t mean she isn’t a complete jackass for behaving this way. I don’t read that far into her psyche… especially when she is posing with a bunch of drunken idiots. Social masterbation at its best…
I have to agree with Raye. When this “lady” sees a camera is it instinctive for her to pucker up like that? She might be a really nice girl, but using that pose for ALL her pictures is just lame. Not saying she is, but her behavior definitely is. Someone needs to tell her that is it not attractive in the slightest. In a perfect world, there would be univeral kumbayah, but we all know that just isn’t the case. She is an ace of spades, twits, or fools. Too negative? Let’s just say, then, that she is “special” and give her a hug for it.
I’m not saying I think she’s kind or engaging or someone I personally want to hug or hang out with. I’m just saying it’s pretty small to delight in the ridicule of others, especially other women. It might make you feel puffed up and superior in the moment, but all it really does is diminish you on some level. It’s mean spirited. Period.
As Sasha pointed out on her original Social Masturbation post…it’s not that these chicks actually think they’re rockstars, it’s that they are so damn insecure that they feel the need to act like rockstars in public.
We’ve all been there. And we’ve all been guilty of public idiocy at some point…even you Raye. Hopefully we haven’t all had to suffer with it being broadcast across the internet. No one deserves that.
I really don’t think it’s all that deep. Perhaps I am being unfair, and this girl is entering the peace corps and on her way to being a Nobel Laureate someday, but for now, she’s comes off as being one of those people that hops on a silly fad and takes it to an extreme. I’m thinking she and all the chicks out there like her are doing more on a daily basis to demean women than certainly Raye or anybody else here is. Again, maybe I am wrong, and I am unfair, but she most likely is never going to see these comments, and if she did, then one might hope it would be the hammer to nail into her head that she’s only making herself look foolish…especially because she isn’t coming across as someone who can appreciate the more subtle and gentle approach of a chisel.
Listen Natalie, my post is not about “delighting in the ridicule of others”. Undoubtedly I have been a class A retard at times too. I am not denying that. But this girl posted her pictures all over some social networking site or the individual who made the video in question would not have had the ammunition. All I’m sayin is, if you don’t want your dirty laundry aired all over the internet then don’t put it up for sale on facebook. She wanted the “good” attention that came from it, but with the good must also come the bad… especially when you are acting like a total douche. And I highly doubt she is all that self-conscious. My money is more on Narcissistic. Self-conscious people don’t post 200 pictures of themselves on a social networking site if they don’t think the pics look good. I’m jus’ sayin. You can hate me if you wanna but I don’t think it makes me a small individual to be annoyed by it and point it out. I point out my own dumbassery at times too.
My point was never about her integrity, her motivations, nor her capacity for kindness. These pictures indeed makes her appear quite vacuous. (I’m betting she is INCREDIBLY self-conscious and insecure, but fights like hell to hide it…a few clues are the over-tanning, the dairy queen frosted lip gloss…and, of course, the lips.)
My point was about your choice to re-post a video created for the sole purpose of degrading and embarrassing another human being. That’s it.
