Jazz’s Poetry Corner: Society

By Guest Poet, Jazmenha

Constant pressures between external expectations and internal desires can result in resentment if you allow it. I am learning that only gratitude can replace resentment. It is not easy, but you are worth it.

“Society Does Not Have The Right to Tell You Who To Love”

“Resentment will kill you
toxic poison to your soul
Resentment of feeling imprisoned
by society’s entrapment of who you
must love
Resentment of feeling you are being
held down when you try so hard to rise above.
Comparisons are equally toxic to your soul
All the resulting pain can take a serous toll of your life
Wishing you had such freedom of control
Admiring what another has
Wishing it for your own
Gratitude is the only way
Resentment will kill you
Sets darkness on your everyday
People will say what they will.
Life can feel all up hill.
Gratitude needs to replace resentment
before it’s too late.
The clock can not be rewound
But if you hold onto resentment
you are rushing your place into the ground.
Only you can turn your life around.
People will always have opinions of what is morally right
when in reality they are just being judgmentally uptight.
Gratitude is an attitude.
Resentment is displaced ownership. ”

This was posted automatically – saved from a couple weeks back. With the recent passing of my aunt ( 2 days ago) I can’t deal with possible negative comments as I personally do not think this is my “best” poem. So please no rude comments. The “gratitude” is referring to celebrating the connection you have found with another.

Jaz – I am so sorry about your aunt. I hope we we can all put the negativity of the past behind us, especially in favor of your healing right now. I’ll be thinking of you as you deal with this over the next few days.

This is a beautiful poem, as always. I am grateful for you. Hugs to you.

Thanks Novia and thanks Young Butch. I flew out after work today and am staying alone in the hotel while everyone else has their spouse/support system (sucks :( for me). I’m going to her funeral tomorrow morning. If that isn’t enough I ended up getting a stitches in my head the beginning of this week. I drove myself to and from the ER to get 2 inches in length worth of stitches on the top of my head- being single completely sucks. :( Needless to say I am in a total funk. :(
Young Butch THIS was the actual poem that I wrote inspired by your first entry to CCL that Sasha turned into a post. It got mixed with another in posting but this is the one I was referring to.
